The design parameters ranged from basic management principles such as identifying and tagging, physical location, value and utilization to the requirements as stipulated in the Public Finance Management Act of 1999 (PFMA). Since it was developed locally, it can be adapted to suit specific client requirements. I.A.M.S® is a unique system which provides users with the full spectrum of all the requirements set by Acts and accounting policies for proper asset management and at the same time getting their asset catalogues ready for e-procurement or e-business when required.
Assets are identified and bar coded, together with their location and linked to occupant details and client specific infrastructures such as cost centre, financial and current location codes. This ensures implementation of asset verification procedures or stock taking in a very short time. This can be done per department, per location, per cost centre, per asset class or per asset number, depending on the requirement.
Another huge advantage is that during the cataloguing process the assets are also classified according to the Universal Standard Product and Services Classification (UNSPSC). This enables the user to integrate with electronic market places and communicate on a global basis, when the opportunity arises.
The system allows assets to be scanned with the use of the “Off-Line tool”. The “Off-Line Tool” enables inventory listing to be printed for each location. The inventory listing can then be signed by the responsible person as acknowledgement of the contents of that location.
I.A.M.S® produces a range of standard reports, and user specific ones can also be generated by the report writer and data extract tool if required.
IAMS can integrate to the LOGIS A3 text files via a unique interface component. This creates a mirror image of the LOGIS A3 data and will enable the LOGIS Asset Register to be compared to the IAMS verified assets. All financial data ranging from the purchase order number, order date, vendor and cost price can be imported into IAMS. Depreciation will be calculated and verified to the LOGIS A3 data.
The BAS payment number is available in IAMS via the data import. This will enable the payments to be verified against the IAMS mirrored data. The unique function of reconciliation is thus available between the LOGIS A3 and the BAS data.

Logis (Logistical Information System) is the transversal procurement system of the SA government and requires cataloguing of items, contracts, inventory and assets; these services are provided by Amanzi. Amanzi specializes in NATO cataloguing and MIIN item identification, bar coding and linking of all ledgers.

Data scrubbing also called data cleansing, is the process of amending or removing data in a database that is incorrect, incomplete, improperly formatted, or duplicated. Amanzi offers a service to Logis users to perform data scrubbing/data cleansing on the ICN numbers and ICN descriptions. This will ensure that the Logis Asset Register and Material master is aligned to the correct descriptions and assets as verified. After cleansing, the data will be aligned with other similar data sets in the system. The inconsistencies detected or removed may have been originally caused by user entry errors, by corruption in transmission or storage, or by different data dictionary definitions of similar entities in different stores.

Amanzi present ‘Asset Management in the Public Sector’ training. The course covers Asset Management Life Cycle, Asset Classification, Needs Analysis, Principles of Asset Management, Ownership and Control, Responsibility for Asset Management, Asset Register and Stock Take/Asset verification. Other training offered is that of “Asset Management for Executive Managers” and the Asset Management component of Supply Chain Management.
